Project Graduation Letter from State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling

Dear Graduate (and parents/guardians),

Congratulations on your upcoming High School Graduation! I look forward to celebrating this wonderful occasion with you at this year’s Project Graduation event.

Project Graduation has been the premier celebration event for St. Mary’s County High School graduates for the past 40 years. In 1984, the State’s Attorney’s Office for St. Mary’s County established Project Graduation to provide students with a safe and fun way to celebrate their graduation achievements free from alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and vapes.

Since the program’s inception, St. Mary’s County has not had an alcohol-related tragedy on graduation night. I am grateful to all the volunteers and community partners to offer you this opportunity to celebrate your graduation achievements with your friends and classmates.

We are honored to put together an all-night FREE event, to include:

  • Great food: dinner, dessert, breakfast
  • Activities: bowling, swimming, softball, basketball, volleyball
  • Movie (popcorn and soda)
  • Music and Dancing

As your State’s Attorney, I am proud to host Project Graduation. I want to acknowledge the continued success of this program, thanks to our community and allied partnerships with the St. Mary’s County Schools – public and private- the Navy, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, the Maryland State Police, the St. Mary’s County Health Department, the Department of Aging & Human Services, the Optimist Clubs, and many others.

As we commit to giving you a wonderful experience, we ask you to commit to the 100% substance and alcohol-free attendance policy. By registering to attend, you are agreeing to all the terms in the contract and recognize that anything that happens on NAS Patuxent River is subject to the rules and laws governing a federal military installation.

Congratulations again! Please get in touch with your school advisor or my office if you have any questions about Project Graduation.

Best wishes,
Jaymi Sterling,
State’s Attorney for St. Mary’s County
